Four people were killed and three people were injured in a car crash that took place around 2 a.m. on Jan. 10 in Chula Vista. Police say that an Acura was speeding when it ran a red light and crashed into a van near Industrial Boulevard and Main Street. The Acura was going south on Industrial when it hit the Honda Odyssey going westbound on Main.

Academics from Georgetown University say that pedestrians in wheelchairs are 36 percent more likely to be killed when struck than those on foot, and careless motorists are often the reason why. The study was based on NHTSA accident statistics recorded between 2006 and 2012, and it was published in the online medical journal BMJ Open.
On Nov. 23, it was reported that a California widow filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles County and the driver of a fire truck who allegedly caused the fatal accident that killed her husband. The accident occurred on July 31 at about 5 p.m. as the widow and her 36-year-old husband were heading to a rehearsal dinner for a wedding.
