Personal injuries come in many forms. Some are physical, and others are emotional. Even emotional scars come at a cost, and in this case, those injuries were compensable.

While this story is not about the person charged with a rape, it is about what happens when a person tries to cover up something horrible. In this case, Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) has to pay out $2 million to a woman who was put through emotional trauma when her rape was concealed.

According to the story, the Orange County jury awarded the woman $2 million after finding that the minister, her grandmother, had acted in an inappropriate manner by berating her granddaughter when she reported that she had been sexually assaulted at age 13. She claimed that a church employee assaulted her.

When the incident occurred, the girl’s grandmother would have been legally required to report the incident in accordance with California’s laws. She allegedly never called police due to the risk of bad press.
