A $50 chainsaw sold by Harbor Freight Tools in stores throughout the United States has been recalled because, in some cases, the chainsaws won’t turn off. These defective chainsaws have caused individuals to get seriously hurt. Now, Harbor Freight has asked customers who purchased the chainsaws to bring them into their local stores for a replacement immediately before they get hurt.

Harbor Freight Tools has already received 15 complaints from customers who said their chainsaws wouldn’t turn off. Incidents related to the devices caused three laceration injuries. One injury was severe enough that the victim needed stitches, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The CPSC said that Harbor Freight Tools will have new, replacement chainsaws available for customers in their stores by May 21. The recall specifically targets two different types of Chinese-made 14-inch chainsaws. One is being sold as the brand “The Portland and One Stop Garden.” It features green and black coloring and has Portland on its blades. The other is being sold as the brand “Chicago Electric.” It features red and black coloring and has “Chicago Electric” on its handle.

Consumers are urged not to take any risks with these inexpensive, electric, Chinese chainsaws. They should stop using them return them to the store where they bought them immediately to avoid an injury.

If you or a loved one suffered a serious injury as a result of a malfunctioning consumer product — no matter what kind of product it was — you may want to investigate New York consumer product safety laws to determine your legal rights.
