Accident injuries that are often delayed

When California residents are involved in car accidents, they are at risk for suffering serious injuries that could potentially include broken bones and damage to internal organs. However, there are cases where a driver or passenger may walk away from a crash only to begin suffering from accident symptoms later on. This is because some symptoms can take hours, days or even weeks to show up.

Head and back pain are just some of the accident symptoms that often show up several days after the crash. For example, headaches can be caused by concussions or even a clot in the brain. Neck and shoulder pain, including whiplash, can be very serious as well but may still take some time to show up. Whiplash can result from collisions that occur at speeds as low as 14 miles an hour. Back pain may not be noticed until injured muscles and ligaments tighten hours or days after a crash.

A person's overall physical condition can also be a delayed symptom. For example, accident victims may begin to feel numbness in their limbs, and they may also suffer from abdominal pain and even swelling. This can be an indication of bleeding in the abdomen and can be life-threatening if medical attention is not sought.

Finally, those who are involved in motor vehicle accidents can potentially suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. This can impact the injured person's life through flashbacks and disturbing memories. If another driver caused the accident, the injured person may potentially seek compensation for the injuries suffered through a personal injury lawsuit filed with the assistance of an attorney against the responsible motorist.
