California car accident leads to 1 death, 5 injuries

One person recently died and several others were injured in a recent crash in California. The tragic car accident occurred on a Monday night. According to police, excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.

Police said the car wreck involved several vehicles. At a little past 8 p.m., one sport utility vehicle ended up in oncoming traffic while on a bridge. At that time, it crashed into a pickup truck.

Police reported that the individual driving the sport utility vehicle died at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, one passenger involved in the accident suffered critical injuries, while four other people suffered injuries deemed to be moderate. According to officials, none of these individuals were wearing seatbelts. The truck driver suffered no injuries. Police continued to investigate whether alcohol or drugs were also causal actors in the collision.

The people injured in the SUV that might have been speeding may opt to file personal injury claims in this case. Speeding may be considered reckless or negligent driving, and proof of this may be presented in civil court in an effort to establish liability in the accident. Even though the vehicle driver died in the crash, this person's estate may still be sued, and anyone else who separately owned his or her car may be named as a defendant as well. A successful outcome in this type of California car accident case may result in a monetary award, which could help the injury victims to cover their medical costs and other losses caused by the car accident.
