The loss of a child to a car accident is one of most traumatic experiences a family can encounter. The family members of a young California girl recently killed in an accident are likely experiencing grief, as well as anger, over their loss. In addition, it is likely that they are seeking justice. Obtaining justice for a car accident through a civil claim can help a victim’s surviving family members feel some closure after enduring a horrific ordeal.

The incident occurred on a Sunday in early November. According to reports, an 18-year-old man was driving his car through a California neighborhood. Authorities believe that he lost control and suddenly plowed through an area fence, striking a group of people who were near an ice cream truck. The parked truck was in a driveway when the accident happened.

Authorities state that the man then backed up his vehicle and fled the accident scene. A young girl, reported to be 3 years old, passed away as a result of the man’s alleged actions, while other individuals suffered injuries deemed to be minor. The man believed to have caused the fatal accident now faces a charge for gross vehicular manslaughter, as well as engaging in a hit-and-run accident. Police also claim that he was intoxicated when the crash happened.

The family of the deceased girl may file a wrongful death claim against the man if they believe his negligence led to her death. If the plaintiffs are successful in their case, a California civil court may award damages to the family. Wrongful death compensation is designed to cover a deceased family member’s burial costs, along with compensation for emotional distress caused by the unfortunate car accident.
