Cyclist seeks to win California race for father

The Amgen Tour of California, which starts in Sacramento, is a bike trek that lasts for 720 miles. One of the riders who will be participating is planning to do so in honor of his father, another cyclist who was himself an Olympian in 1976 and who has also been inducted into the U.S. Hall of Fame for cycling. The man hopes to be able to take the top spot in the race for his father.

The elder cyclist was hurt in an accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury. The tragic bike accident came about when a car, which was driving in the wrong lane, almost slammed into him. He tried to avoid the vehicle and managed to do so, but he smashed into the pavement face first.

The man has since been recovering from his injuries to the point that he is almost able to race again. His son said that his strength is returning all of the time. However, he would still like to show his father what he can do and win the race for him.

Much of this has to do with the fact that his father directly stated that he wanted the son to continue with his cycling, which was something of a family affair. That was one of the first statements that he made as soon as he could talk again, and the son took it to heart, training for the Amgen Tour of California.

Even when there is not a collision with a car, a bicycle accident can lead to significant injuries, so it is good for all cyclists, whether riding at the professional level or just for fun, to know what compensation they may be able to seek.
