One person died and three people were injured in a vehicle crash that took place on a recent Friday morning. The wrong-way car accident took place along California’s Interstate 880. The authorities reported that they received a call after midnight regarding a driver who was going north in the southbound lanes.

When police got to the accident scene, they saw the driver, 22, trapped inside a car that was ablaze. She died as the result of the collision and fire. According to authorities, her vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck.

Three individuals in the pickup suffered serious injuries. The man who was driving the truck is 26 years old. Police continued to investigate the crash and did not rule out alcohol or drugs as contributing factors in the crash.

In this type of car accident in California, the person found to have caused the crash may be held liable for any injuries and/or deaths resulting from the crash. If the individual deemed to have caused an injury or fatal collision perishes in the accident, his or her estate may be sued. In addition, any separate owner of the vehicle the individual was driving at the time of the crash may face a personal injury lawsuit filed by those injured in the crash or a wrongful death claim filed by the surviving loved ones of someone who died in the crash. A successfully litigated claim may result in financial damages that can help the plaintiffs to pay for hospital bills, end-of-life expenses and/or other losses tied to such a crash.
