Motorcyclist killed in California accident

Authorities say that a 22-year-old man was killed when a Nissan Pathfinder turned left into the path of his motorcycle at about 8:20 p.m. on July 17. The crash took place 3400 block of Santa Maria Way in Orcutt when the motorcycle traveling westbound collided with the vehicle.

California woman killed in head-on collision

A 28-year-old woman was killed and two other women were seriously injured when two cars struck each other head-on on California State Road 4 in Stanislaus County on the evening of July 14. Police investigating the accident said that it had not yet been determined if alcohol consumption or drug use were contributory factors.

U.S. roads more deadly than those of other wealthy countries

While California and the rest of the U.S. have seen a decrease in motor vehicle fatality rates, a recent report issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention underscores that much still needs to be done. The report, which was released on July 6, compared U.S. traffic fatality rates to those of 19 other high-income countries.

Former police dog attacks man who offers water bowl

On July 3, a man in California was attacked by a dog that had once worked for a law enforcement agency in Los Angeles County. On the night of the dog attack, the 20-year-old victim had seen the German shepherd loose in Eastvale. The man gave the dog some water before the dog put both of its paws on his chest, bit him and dragged him onto the road.

3 injuries and 1 fatality follow Caltrans accident

A California highway was the site of a major accident on Friday, July 1, 2016, involving a Dodge Ram pickup and a Caltrans vehicle. The incident left one person dead, one critically injured and two others with minor injuries. While authorities have ruled out drugs and alcohol as causes of the accident, the reasons for the collision are still unclear.

Autonomous driving technology for California trucks

Trucking component supply companies ZF and WABCO have announced the next stage in autonomous driving technology for truckers. The companies have previously released such collision avoidance technology as WABCO's OnGuard braking system and ZF's steering system, but this joint venture blends technology from both lines. The Evasive Maneuver Assist system was announced on June 28 as a progression of existing active braking systems.
