California car accident results in 2 deaths

One vehicle accident recently took the lives of two people in California. Police said the car accident occurred when a person who may have been under the influence went over the middle line of a road and struck an automobile head-on. Both of the occupants of the car that was struck, a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were killed. The two were described as inseparable, and the man had apparently just picked up the woman after leaving his job.

While the pair were headed west, a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old man was going east on the highway. His vehicle apparently drifted into the westbound vehicle's path. Police said the cars crashed into one another.

The two victims died at the accident scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to a hospital, where his condition was deemed critical. Apparently, his driver's license was valid but had been suspended back in 2011 to 2012 because he had not paid some tickets in another state. Police said they were investigating whether the driver was impaired at the time of this accident.

The family members of the two fatal victims in this California car accident may seek to hold the eastbound driver financially responsible for their loved ones' deaths. They can do this by filing wrongful death claims against the driver, pursuing monetary damages that -- if awarded -- can help to cover funeral costs and other accident-related damages. In civil court, a preponderance of evidence must document that the accident was the result of other driver's negligence in order for the court to find the man liable for the damages sustained.
