Hip fractures common after California car accidents

Injuries resulting from a serious car accident can vary depending on the age and size of the accident victim. According to the Placer County Network of Care, one of the most common injuries sustained by young adults and children in car accidents is hip fractures.

As we discussed in an informative article on our website, hip fractures are common among older car accident victims as well, and they can be quite serious, no matter how young or old the accident victim may be

The Blue Shield of California reports that a hip fracture can be more serious than a broken bone and typically requires surgery. However, surgery is most effective if it is performed within 24 hours of the injury, which isn't always possible if the victim suffered other severe injuries in the car accident.

Even with surgery, a hip fracture can take up to a year to heal and often involves months of physical therapy. Additionally, anyone who has suffered a fractured hip will tell you that the injury causes severe pain. Many people suffer from emotional damage and psychological challenges as a result.

Elderly individuals who suffer a fractured hip in a car accident are more likely to suffer another hip fracture in the future; middle-aged accident victims with hip fractures often have to miss work for extended periods; and young accident victims with hip fractures can be tormented by pain as they struggle to stay still as they recover.

Because of the high economic and non-economic costs associated with hip fractures, individuals may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related costs.

Many insurance companies attempt to fight insurance claims and offer unfair settlements to accident victims with hip fractures, which is why it's best to get a qualified personal injury lawyer involved.
