1 dies, 1 injured in car accident in California

Alcohol has a way of helping a person to calm down and feel relaxed. However, it can also slow a person’s reaction time and cloud one’s judgment. Consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel may thus result in a tragic car accident leading to injury and death. One man recently died after another man thought to have been driving while intoxicated reportedly caused a single-car crash in California.

The allegedly intoxicated individual was speeding and crashed his vehicle into a freeway barrier, according to police. This accident happened on a recent Saturday early in the morning. The driver of the vehicle suffered critical injuries, while his passenger died as a result of the crash.

According to authorities, the driver was going east and ran through many red lights. When he eventually hit the concrete barrier, both the barrier and the front area of the car were damaged. Charges are pending against the man who drove the car; and police continue to investigate the incident.

The family of the dead passenger has the right to file a wrongful death suit against the man who was driving the vehicle at the time of the California car accident. If the man is later convicted of drunk driving, the family may provide proof of this when trying to make their case for the driver’s liability in the fatal accident. If and when liability is sufficiently established, based on the civil court’s stringent standards, the victim’s family may be awarded compensation that can help them to address the pain and suffering as well as end-of-life costs tied to the tragedy.
