Fatal car accident in California may be result of drunk driving
Driving while under the influence of alcohol can cause an individual to have a slower reaction time and weaker-than-normal coordination skills. This is why it is so dangerous. In fact, a resulting car accident can rapidly lead to serious injuries or even death. When a drunk driver strikes another vehicle and ends up killing someone in the process, the victim’s family understandably may feel outraged and want to seek justice through the California court system.
Recently, a 28-year-old driver was driving the wrong way on Route 94 in San Diego. He collided with another car head-on. The crash killed the driver of the other car, another man who was also 28 years old.
The man who police said was driving the wrong way was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.There are now three felony charges pending against him. He suffered minor injuries in the crash. Meanwhile, a passenger in his car suffered serious injuries.
The individual who has been charged in this case must respond to the criminal charges and may also be sued by the family of the deceased victim, as well as the injured passenger. The deceased victim’s loved ones have the right to file a wrongful death claim against him, seeking damages to help cover end-of-life expenses and other losses tied to the fatal car accident. The seriously injured victim is entitled to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the alleged drunk driver. A drunk driving conviction, if secured, certainly may help to establish the driver’s liability in a civil suit in California.
